Outdoor Education and Training gives you a unique learning environment, providing you with opportunities for active, experiential and social learning through water-based, land-based and centre-based activities. The ETB Outdoor Education and Training Provision document provides a strategic framework for the sector. The benefits of this exciting and innovative approach to learning are many and include; improving your resilience and problem-solving, developing your communication and teamwork skills, discovering your personal strengths and weaknesses, improving your self-confidence, self-esteem and self-knowledge, developing your creative and critical thinking, preparing for employment, and progressing your studies in Further Education and Training.
Education and Training Boards operate 12 Outdoor Education and Training Centres (OETCs) across the country and an Outdoor Education Support Service in Dublin. Outdoor Education and Training is a vital element in any comprehensive education programme. Outdoor Education programmes use adventure sports and the outdoor environment to challenge students to realise their potential, develop new skills and enhance their wellbeing through time in nature. Many of the OETCs offer residential programmes and all centres provide courses for Primary, Post-Primary and Further Education & Training students.
